Gli “zombi”, i morti viventi, hanno invaso gli Stati Uniti. Il terrore dilaga. Quattro superstiti, due soldati e due funzionari di una rete televisiva, cercano scampo in elicottero. La scarsità di carburante pero’ li costringe ad atterrare sul tetto di un enorme supermercato, ignari che anche lì si nascondano degli zombi. Mentre i morti viventi, che si cibano di carne umana, tentano di sopraffarli, i quattro cercano di crearsi un rifugio all’interno del supermercato.
